Do You Know Your Emotional Intelligence Quotient?
Conversations around emotional intelligence are everywhere these days. I’m sure you’ve read articles about how many corporations are requiring their middle and upper management to invest in emotional intelligence training. It’s referred to as Emotional Intelligence (EI) or Emotional Quotient (EQ).
Emotional Intelligence is a soft skill that can benefit anyone, whether they’re leading a team or are a part of it. Self awareness is the key to improving your EQ. Here are some questions to ask yourself to determine where you’re at:
- Are you aware of your emotions and where they’re coming from?
- Can you manage your feelings without allowing them to emotionally flood you?
- Are you able to sense the emotional states of others?
- Are you able to get the job done, even when you’ve been triggered?
“The term ‘Emotional Intelligence’, first coined by psychologists Mayer and Salovey (1990), refers to one’s capacity to perceive, process and regulate emotional information accurately and effectively, both within oneself and in others and to use this information to guide one’s thinking and actions and to influence those of others.” Positivepsychology.com
Here are some categories that are highlighted in training:
- Self Regulation
- Social Skills
I wanted to share this information with you in order to help you grow and succeed. If you’re wanting to climb the corporate ladder, so to speak, or grow your business, Emotional Intelligence training is fast becoming the popular route to success.
One last thing, I found a great online quiz you can take to assess your level of EQ. Here’s the link for Psychology Today.
